Rauner Appoints New U Of I Trustees Board Member
On Tuesday Governor Bruce Rauner appointed Chicago Attorney and University of Illinois alumnus Sanford ‘Sandy’ Perl to the U of I Board of Trustees—a position that has been vacant since January 2017.
If confirmed by the state Senate, Perl will serve a six-year term. Rauner says it took time to appoint a new U of I trustee, because he wanted to find the most qualified person for the job.
“Sandy Perl is a phenomenal U of I alumnus, leader in the business community in Illinois, leader in the Jewish community in Illinois, great fundraiser," Rauner said at an event Tuesday in the U of I Research Park.
Perl is a Glencoe native, and an attorney and partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Chicago. He also serves on the national board of directors for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Perl’s seat on the U of I Board was the last of three seats that became vacant last year. Governor Rauner filled the other two open seats with Democrat Donald Edwards and Republican Stuart King. Rauner says he does not know Perl’s political affiliation.
