Quinn To Sign Same-Sex Marriage Measure Later This Month

Gov. Pat Quinn says he'll sign legislation allowing same sex couples in Illinois to marry this month.  The event will include those who fought to pass the measure.

The Chicago Democrat told reporters Wednesday that it's a matter of logistics for planning an event that will involve numerous activists and advocates involved in lobbying for the measure.

He says it's important for people who worked to pass the legislation to be at the bill signing.
 
When Quinn signed Illinois' civil union bill in January 2011, roughly 1,000 people attended the event at the Chicago Cultural Center.
 
Under the marriage measure, same-sex couples can get married starting in June.  Both chambers took votes on the bill Tuesday after months of lobbying.
 
Illinois will become the 15th state to allow same-sex marriage.
