Human Remains Found In Clinton Lake I-D’d As Missing Urbana Woman

The Champaign County Coroner’s office has identified dismembered human remains found in Clinton Lake last Sunday as those of 24 year old Ashley Gibson of Urbana.

Champaign Police say Gibson was last seen the previous Sunday, April 17th, at a home on Hedge Road in Champaign’s Garden Hills neighborhood. She was the subject of a missing and endangered persons report issued by police last Wednesday.  Their investigation led them to search Clinton Lake in DeWitt County for Gibson’s remains.

A news release from Coroner Duane Northrup says police have determined that Gibson died in Champaign County. That keeps Champaign County authorities in charge of the investigation.

Northrup says Gibson was identified through a tattoo and visual identification, and no signs were found of injuries that could have caused her death. Northrup is still awaiting the results of a toxicology test.
