In the same week that Illinois Republicans split on the Bipartisan Budget Agreement, they united behind the choice of Ryan to succees John Boehner as Speaker of the U.S. House.

The plea deal in the former US House Speaker's hush-money case recommends up to a 6-month prison sentence.  An indictment issued in May said Hastert agreed to pay someone known as "Individual A" to hide past misconduct.

Former Republican Congressman and Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood is pushing for more bipartisanship in Washington, D.C.  He spoke with Illinois Public Media's Brian Moline about the need for bipartisanship and other national topics.
