The Illinois State Board of Elections plans to help all 108 local election authorities across the state strengthen their cyber security practices. The effort comes after the state election authority was hacked by Russian intelligence officials in 2016. 

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says he does not agree with President Trump’s initial statements on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The Justice Department charged 12 Russian intelligence officers on Friday with a litany of alleged offenses related to Russia's hacking of the Democratic National Committee's emails, state election systems and other targets in 2016.

Ahead of President Donald Trump’s first meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is urging the president to take a tough stance on Russia’s meddling in US elections. Durbin is one of five Democratic senators to sign a letter to the president asking him to address findings of U.S intelligence that Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 elections.
