(Updated: 6:00am 5/18/2018) -- Thousands of water customers in southern Illinois entered a second day of water conservation Friday, as well as news the crisis may soon begin to ease.

A broken water main in southern Illinois has left several cities in the Rend Lake Water Conservancy District short of water, forcing the closing of schools and businesses.
