Marlin Wins Urbana Mayor’s Race
Democratic Alderwoman Diane Marlin will be Urbana’s next mayor after netting more than 42-hundred votes Tuesday. Republican opponent Rex Bradfield finished with 680. Marlin will be sworn into office on May 1.
Democratic Alderwoman Diane Marlin will be Urbana’s next mayor after netting more than 42-hundred votes Tuesday. Republican opponent Rex Bradfield finished with 680. Marlin will be sworn into office on May 1.
Urbana Police Chief Pat Connolly has resigned, effective April 14. Connolly made the announcement at Monday night's city council meeting. In an emotional statement, he thanked city officials for their support and said the city is in good hands under the remaining police leadership.
Community leaders in Champaign-Urbana have been working on the CU Fresh Start approach to gun violence for nearly a year. Thursday marked the program's 'Call-In', giving offenders with a background tied to gun crime a chance to connect to community resources and reform their lives. "We recognize that we can't arrest our way out of this problem," says Urbana Police Chief Pat Connolly.
The Urbana City Council Monday night unimously supported new alderman Aaron Ammons, who later was the lone opponent in an initial vote supporting tasers for police.
