Warming Center Is Part of Danville Response to Storm

A warming shelter opened Sunday in Danville at 220 S. Bowman Avenue.

Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer announced the opening of the shelter Sunday afternoon in an email to media, as a winter storm brought heavy snow and high winds to the region. He said other warming shelters would be opened as needed.

In additon, Eisenhauer announced that CRIS Healthy Aging Center and Rural Mass Transit would open to the public, Monday morning at 10 AM to "address emergency and essential services". Routine appointments have been canceled, so that staff can focus on crisis and weather-related problems facing riders and senior citizens.

In addition, Danville Mass Transit will not begin bus service on Monday until at least 10:15 AM. DMT's Monday schedule could change in other ways, due to the weather.

And Mayor Eisenhauer urged the Danville Humane Society to join with the city in "strictly enforcing" city ordinances against animal cruelty, especially regarding animals left in the cold without proper shelter, food or water.

Meanwhile, the Danville Public Works Department has suspended Solid Waste Collections until further notice.  Brickyard Landfill will be closed on Monday 1/6/14. The scheduled Christmas Tree and Yard Waste collection program is also suspended until further notice.
