Search For Man Accused Of Shooting Police Officer Moves To Southern Illinois

Four days after he allegedly shot a Mahomet police officer, authorities are searching for Dracy "Clint" Pendleton in southern Illinois’ Shawnee National Forest.

The US Forest Service closed the Shawnee National Forests’ Lusk Creek Wilderness Area in Pope County to the public Tuesday so that police could search for Pendleton there.

He’s charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony, following a run-in Saturday night with a Mahomet Police officer in which the officer was shot in the arm.

State Police say Pendleton may have been shot, too, sustaining a wound in the neck. He was last seen Monday morning, and had shaved his beard and trimmed his hair.

In their latest bulletin, State Police say they are “seeking a peaceful resolution to this situation, and sincerely hope Pendleton will turn himself in without incident.”
