Report: SOS Employee Double-Billed State
An internal investigation found an ex-administrator in Secretary of State Jesse White's office received at least $5,000 in salary from another state agency while claiming she was also at White's office.
White's inspector general found in a report prepared last summer that 36-year-old Marlene Liss earned $11 an hour while claiming to work five hours daily as a home health care provider for the Department of Human Services.
At the same time she had an $80,000 job as the White's chief deputy director of securities, which regulates the industry and protects investors.
She left that job in September but is still on the Human Services payroll. She does not have a listed number in Chicago or Springfield.
Neither spokesmen for White nor Human Services immediately responded to requests for comment.
