A renowned baritone and director of the University of Illinois’ Lyric Theater program will honor his great-grandfather as the Illinois Supreme Court unveils its new quarters next week.

Voice professor and renowned baritone Nathan Gunn and his pianist wife, Julie Jordan Gunn, will perform on the same bench from which Walter T. Gunn heard oral arguments as a justice from 1938 to 1951.

The rededication ceremony at the Supreme Court chambers is Tuesday night at 6 p.m.  The elder Gunn, chief justice in 1940-41, was from Danville, home of current chief Rita Garman.

The performances will follow the renovated dedication plaque's unveiling.

The plaque will be placed next to the original, 1908 marker.

Other speakers will be former Gov. James Thompson - chairman of the Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission - and Illinois State Bar Association president Richard Felice.
