Rantoul Woman Dies After Accident at I-74

Illinois State Police say a Rantoul woman is dead after apparently jumping from the Neil Street highway overpass in Champaign Monday afternoon.

Sergeant Bill Emery says the 46-year old woman then struck a van on Interstate 74 at 12:45 p.m., and was pronounced dead about an hour later. Emery says no motorists were injured. The woman's name is not being released pending notification of family.

Eastbound I-74 was closed for more than an hour, but the highway was re-opened to traffic at 2 p.m.
