Market at the Square Returns Saturday in Urbana

Last year’s drought and the later than normal snowfall this season shouldn’t have a huge impact on Urbana’s Market at the Square, which kicks off on Saturday.

Market Director Natalie Kenny Marquez said she is expecting about 30 growers to show up with fresh produce, in addition to other vendors selling pre-produced food and art work.

But Marquez said because of setbacks from the weather, some farmers might not have all of their produce available for a few more weeks.

“We will have all of our growers there, but they might not have all the items that folks might be used to seeing at the start of the market in previous seasons," Marquez said. "They’ll be there. They’ll just be a few weeks late in getting them to the market.”

Marquez said this year’s Market will be a little bit different with the addition of a new online tool that lets people search for vendors and what they’re selling.

The Market at the Square goes from 7am until noon on Saturday on the corner of Illinois & Vine Streets in downtown Urbana.
