ISU Waiting On State Budget To Decide Tuition

An official with Illinois State University says there's too much state budget uncertainty for the school to set tuition rates yet.

ISU chief of staff Jay Groves tells The Pantagraph Tuesday that trustees won't act on tuition at this Friday's meeting. Instead he says they'll need to set a special meeting for June.
 
Groves says ISU finance administrators were told at a legislative hearing last month to come up with a plan showing the effect of cutting the state's appropriation to the school by 12.4 percent.

Groves says that's about $9 million. He says that would mean a tuition increase for incoming students of between 4 and 6 percent.
 
Groves says university officials don't want to raise tuition that much.  Last spring the board raised tuition about 2 percent.
