Gov. Quinn Promotes Veterans Lottery Ticket

Gov. Pat Quinn flew around Illinois Monday to highlight a new Illinois Lottery ticket meant to raise money for veterans' programs.

The governor announced the new $2 Veterans Cash ticket in Chicago on Monday. He followed that appearance with stops in Peoria, Milan and Rockford.

The ticket is the latest in a lottery program that was launched in 2006 and earmarks lottery proceeds for veterans.

Quinn's administration says that more than $11 million has been awarded to more than 210 veterans' organizations statewide.

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs receives the ticket proceeds. It uses the funds to provide grants for veterans' job training, medical expenses, homelessness and long term care.

Quinn has made veterans issues a top priority during his tenure as governor. He's running for re-election.
