Former U Of I Football Player Indicted On Murder Charges

Former University of Illinois Football Captain Curtis T. Lovelace has been indicted by a grand jury on one charge of first degree murder in the death of his wife, Cory Lovelace, in 2006.

Authorities say the indictment comes after the case was reopened last year after the Quincy Police Department received some new information.  

The Quincy Journal reports Lovelace, 45, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday near his Quincy law office.

Judge Scott Butler on Thursday advised Lovelace, who is being held in lieu of $5 million bond, that he faces between 20 and 60 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000 if convicted.

The case against Lovelace is being handled by the State Appellate Prosecutor's Service in Springfield because of his former job as assistant state's attorney Adams County.

Lovelace is a 1994 U of I Law School graduate.  He played center for the U of I football team in the late 1980’s.   

Lovelace is being held on $5-million bond.
