Former Rantoul Man Killed In I-74 Crash
A former Rantoul man was killed early Friday evening in a three-vehicle crash on I-74 near Danville.
The Vermilion County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 44 year old Steven C. Cosand; a news release from Coroner Peggy Johnson said he was residing in Indianapolis, but was originally from Rantoul.
According to Illinois State Police, Cosand was driving eastbound on I-74, when his Jeep Cherokee went off the road, crossed the median and overturned onto the westbound lanes. There, it was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer, causing Cosand, who was not wearing a seatbelt, to be ejected from his vehicle.
A third vehicle was damaged when it drove through the debris field.
There were no other injuries.
Coroner Johnson said that Cosand died from multiple massive blunt force trauma from the crash. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
