Election 2014: Libertarian Treasurer Candidate Matthew Skopek

Libertarian candidate Matthew Skopek says with his background in finance, has definite ideas on how the office should operate. 

But he and six others seeking state and federal office also want a permanent spot on the ballot, and they can achieve that if they earn enough of the vote November 4th.

Skopek is opposed by Champaign Democratic Senator Mike Frerichs and House Republican Tom Cross of Oswego.

Skopek is realistic about his chances November 4th, and knows he likely won’t win, but hopes he and others in the party can earn a permanent spot on the ballot.

"(Our goal is) growing the party and obtaining long-standing ballot access throughout the entire state," he said. "Our goal to achieve getting 5% of the vote for any of our candidates running in statewide office." 

Skopek, 29, is the Treasurer of the Illinois Libertarians, and an accountant for the DuPage County Health Department.  He spoke with Illinois Public Media's Jeff Bossert.
