Eighty Years After Repeal, A Look At Prohibition in C-U
Last week marked the 80th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition. But the effort that was launched in the Champaign area started long before the 18th Amendment became law.
Illinois Public Media’s Jeff Bossert talked with Champaign News-Gazette executive editor Tom Kacich, who’s followed the local history of the prohibition movement.
He says much of the activity to get around the law occurred on downtown Champaign streets, like First, Market, and Walnut.
