Del Monte Recalls Vegetable Trays Sold In Illinois

Del Monte is recalling 28 oz. vegetable trays sold in Illinois, because of suspicion they are associated with outbreaks of Cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a microscopic parasite.

The Illinois Department of Public Health recommends throwing out the vegetable tray if you have purchased it. IDPH says the trays were distributed to Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Demond’s, Sentry, Potash, Meehan’s, Country Market, FoodMax Supermarket, and Peapod in six midwestern states, including Illinois.

An IDPH spokesperson says her department is investigating the outbreak, along with the US Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control. She says no illnesses have yet been reported in Illinois.

The Del Monte vegetable trays have a "best enjoyed by date" of June 17, and include broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and dill dip. IDPH says none should still be on the shelves for purchase.

The FDA says the illnesses have only been reported by people who consumed 6 and 12 oz. vegetable trays under the same label, but the 28 oz. vegetable trays are being recalled because they have some of the same ingredients, and officials have not yet been able to determine which of the ingredients is causing the illness.

As of Friday, the CDC has reported 78 laboratory-confirmed cases of Cyclosporiasis in people from Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan who reportedly ate the 6 and 12 oz. Del Monte vegetable trays.
