DACC Trustees To Consider Tuition Hike

Danville Area Community College Trustees are set to vote Tuesday evening on a tuition increase, in the shadow of the state budget impasse.

The administration is proposing a hike in tuition of ten dollars per credit hour at the Danville college. That would raise tuition to $125 per credit hour for Fiscal Year 2017. Out-of-district tuition would go up to $220 per credit hour.

The $10 tuition hike is expected to generate about $400,000 for Danville Area Community College next year. The administration estimates  that with the increase, “DACC’s tuition and fee rate will likely continue to be slightly above the FY2017 average tuition and fee rate for all Illinois community colleges”.

DACC Administrators say calculating how much revenue is needed is especially difficult this year, because there’s been no state funding during the current year from which to make projections for the next one.

In response to the budget impasse, DACC has already cut some low-enrollment programs and launched a voluntary retirement program.

The Danville Area Community College (Dis. #507) Board of Trustees hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 22 at 7 PM in Vermilion Hall, Room 302 of the college’s campus in Danville.
