CUMTD Managing Director: Time To Review Holiday Schedule
The head of the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District says it’s time for the bus system to explore extending service during the holiday.
On New Year’s Eve, service ended hours before midnight, forcing people to explore other ways of getting home.
CUMTD Managing Director Bill Volk said that has always been part of the transit district’s holiday schedule, but he said he has heard from riders who say it is time for a change. With more businesses and students in Champaign-Urbana, Volk said they may be right.
“We’ve had I think an influx no doubt of international students who tend to stay here during the holidays and in some cases don’t follow the holidays, and need to get around,” Volk said. “So, I think it is time for the board to consider the issue.”
Volk said he expects the CUMTD board to discuss the issue when it meets again at the end of the month. Bus service in Danville and Decatur also ended at around 7pm on New Year’s Eve.
