Cubs Hire Renteria As Next Manager
The Chicago Cubs have made it official and hired Rick Renteria as their new manager.
The Cubs said Renteria was given a three-year contract, with club options for 2017 and 2018. Terms were not disclosed.
The 51-year-old Renteria replaces Dale Sveum, who was fired after two losing seasons (127-197).
He has spent the last six seasons with the San Diego Padres, most recently as their bench coach (2011-13).
A former major league infielder, Renteria has also coached in the Florida Marlins organization and in March managed Mexico in the World Baseball Classic.
