CU Health Dis. Says Flu Shots Finally Here
People relying on the public health department for flu shots won’t have to wait any more in Champaign County.
The Champaign Urbana Public Health District says the shots have arrived and will soon be available to residents.
The Public Health District’s Brandon Meline says the shots were delayed because of production issues.
"Flus mutate and change a lot, so it’s not that they produce a flu vaccine that is used from year to year to year", said Meline. "Depending on how things go, how the flu vaccine actually grows, can really challenge how many doses they can get out, and how many they can get out early."
The delayed shipments of the shots are expected to arrive in Champaign as early as next week. Nasal flu vaccines were not affected by the delays.
Meline says everyone six months and older should get flu vaccinations, and that young children and the elderly are most at risk.
