Cook County Sheriff Introduces Concealed Carry Law

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says he's introducing a county ordinance on concealed carry because he's worried Illinois lawmakers won't meet a deadline to file one for the state.

Dart's ordinance was introduced at the Cook County Board meeting on Wednesday.

It would impose restrictions on where gun owners can carry their guns and leave the final decision about who can carry guns to the sheriff. State lawmakers are under a June 9 deadline imposed by a federal appeals court to pass a statewide concealed carry law.

County Board members also say they're not confident state lawmakers will pass a law in time. But there also is concern that Dart's ordinance will mean the county will find itself defending expensive lawsuits.
