The lowest bond ratings in the country. Billions of dollars in debt. A governor and state legislature that can’t agree on a budget. That’s Illinois now, but not long ago it was California in those dire financial straits.
Nancy Hudspeth is an assistant professor of public administration at Cal State Stanislaus and a former researcher with the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs. While with IGPA, Hudspeth did research comparing the fiscal situations of the two states.
Illinois Public Media’s Brian Moline spoke with Hudspeth about her research and asked her about the biggest similarities she found between the two states when she published her report in 2013.
