Bidders Emerge for Vermilion County Nursing Home

Officials in Vermilion County met this week with one of the two people who may take over the county’s nursing home.

The county has struggled financially to support the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home, and late last year, voters approved a referendum to privatize it.

Assistant States Attorney Bill Donahue is part of the group that’s trying to facilitate the sale.

“We want this to be a part of our community for some time to come. We’re looking for quality people who can do a good job, and the people we talk to, that’s their vision," he said.  "They don’t want to do something just to do it. They want to take over an option to really make it a source of pride and something the community can be proud of.”

Donahue wouldn’t release any details about the potential buyers, except that they both own multiple care facilities in Illinois.

Ultimately, the Vermilion County Board will finalize the sale of the nursing home, but no date has been set for when that might happen.
