Bement Man Charged With Theft From Lions Club
The long-time treasurer of the Bement Lions Club in Piatt County faces theft charges for allegedly taking more than $10,000 from the organization.
The Illinois Attorney General’s office says 54 year old Edward Pfau of Bement was arraigned Tuesday in Kankakee County. A grand jury indicted Pfau last month after a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation investigation concluded that he wrote checks to himself from the Bement Lions Club account during a two year period ending last July. Pfau works as a federal bank examiner.
“Instead of properly overseeing the Lions Club finances, the defendant took money that was intended for projects that Lions members typically sponsor in the community,” Attorney General Lisa Madigan said in a news release.
If convicted, Pfau could face two to seven years in state prison. Kankakee County Judge Kathy Elliot set his next court appearance for July 15th.
