60-year Prison Sentence For Man Convicted In 2016 Campustown Shooting

A 20-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 69 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a man at a party in Champaign’s Campustown area in 2016.

Robbie M. Patton was convicted in September of this year of first-degree murder in the Sept. 25, 2016 killing of 22-year-old George Korchev of Mundelein, and aggravated battery with a firearm for wounding three others --- Moses Lopez, Erik Lasine and Robert Shepard.

The News-Gazette reports that under the sentence imposed by Champaign County Circuit Judge Roger Webber, Patton will serve 60 years for murder, and nine years for the aggravated battery charge. The newspaper reports Patton will have to serve all of the 60-year-term, but was given credit for about 15 months already served.

Police say the shooting happened during a fight at the party in the 300 block of E. Green Street in Champaign. None of Patton's victims were in the fight.

Champaign County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson had requested a 115-year sentence, noting a pattern of wrongdoing including his guilty plea to an aggravated discharge of a firearm charge when he was a minor.

Defense attorney Tony Allegretti asked for 51 years, saying Patton hadn't planned the shooting and is young.
