Mid-American Gardener

Buzzing with Gardening Delights: Monarchs, Bonsai, and Blackberry Honey

In this episode of Mid American Gardener, Phil and Shane are back with a mix of garden tips, insect knowledge, and even some sweet treats.

As you know, Phil is our bonsai expert. He showcases a beautiful crape myrtle bonsai, explaining that it's not a typical choice for bonsai, making it quite the challenge to grow successfully. Shane shares a sweet treat: blackberry honey. This specifically pollinated honey is the only one he has found that actually captures the essence of blackberries, making it a perfect topping for biscuits.

Phil also shares tips to control those pesky whiteflies that are buzzing around gardens in the late summer. We also discuss the upcoming monarch butterfly migration and learn about the incredible multi-generational journey these butterflies undertake from the US and Canada down to Mexico.
