Brighten Up Your Home! Create Beautiful Arrangements with Clippings from Your Yard

Ella and Karen are back in the studio this week to offer their summer gardening tips, ideas for floral arrangements made from yard cuttings, and answering your questions.

First, Ella shares her experience with an invasive plant called Pinellia, which she mistakenly acquired and is now trying to control in her garden. She advises viewers to research their plant purchases and positively identify them before adding them to their gardens.

This week, a viewer sent in a question about relocating coral bells (heucheras) that are popping themselves out of the ground and not doing well. Karen has a number of tips but suggests trimming back the overgrown leaves in the spring and replanting them either in your yard with plenty of shade and water or in a protected pot. You can even propagate the stems for more plants by the end of summer!

Karen also shares her latest craft, lavender wands. By weaving lavender stems together with ribbon, you can create a pretty, beautiful smelling decoration for your home.

Ella and Karen also share how to create beautiful floral arrangements from clippings of flowers in your yard, and what Proven Winners “recipes” did well this year in their pots.

Whether you're dealing with an invasive species or seeking to beautify your garden, there's always something to learn and explore on Mid-American Gardener. Join the experts again next week for more advice and inspiration!
