Mid-American Gardener

Are you ready for fall crops?

We’re back in the studio this week with Chuck and Martie, and they brought lots of blooms, beautiful foliage, and even an edible treat to share!

Last time Chuck was on the show, he shared pictures of the Sweet William in his garden. Once they finished blooming, Chuck collected the seed, and he now recommends starting them as soon as possible so that you get a fall bloom and reseed for the following season. Start your Sweet William in a cell pack in order to control the environment a bit better and then transplant them as soon as they outgrow the container.

Martie also shares two perennials she will be adding to her yard soon: hibiscus and a color-changing hydrangea. In planning your landscaping, Martie recommends using different foliage colors and textures for added visual interest: not everything needs to have a bloom or flower to be gorgeous!

Martie and Chuck also answer viewer questions, including how to grow peas in the fall and where to source a buckeye tree.
