Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on WILL FM-90.9 the Pacifica Quartet plays Beethoven’s 6th String Quartet on the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. At 8:00 it’s Episode Three in the series “Song: Mirror of the World” with Thomas Hampson.

Singing the Romantic Self: The Romantic movement gave birth to a new era of individuality, heralded by the innovative poetry of Goethe and the musical genius of Schubert. The Romantics were also fascinated by the natural and supernatural worlds, which are explored in contrasting settings of Goethe’s eerie poem “Der Erlkönig.” Groundbreaking songs of longing, loneliness, and love, by Beethoven and the Mendelssohn siblings, are also featured.
