Mitusko Uchida, born on Tokyo in 1948, is one of the most famous pianists of our time. In her early years studying in Vienna, she rebelled against the "rules" for playing Mozart. In her mature playing, she has tried to find a middle path between "objective" playing and the loud and fast playing favored by competition judges. Most famous for her playing of Mozart's piano works, she is also admired for her Beethoven and Schubert performances. On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will sample some of her outstanding performances.
