Sir Malcolm Sargent was one of the top British conductors of the first half of the 20th century. "Flash Harry" to his orchestral layers, an idol to young fans at the annual "Proms," Sir Malcolm had the knack of getting choristers to sing better than anyone else in Handel's "Messiah" as well as Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. From the voluminous shelves of his recordings, we will sample his conducting art on this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM.
