Dean Dixon

Dean Dixon (1915-1976) was the first Black classical music conductor to gain widespread fame. Tired of prejudice here, in 1949 he went to Europe and became famous. In the early days of LP, he made many pioneering recordings of American music. On Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will sample the wide range of Dixon's records.
