Beyond Rumanian Rhapsodies

George Enescu (1881-1955), world famous violinist and teacher, was Rumania's greatest composer. Aside from his two Rumanian Rhapsodies, his Symphonies and Suites are unknown to concert and radio audiences here in the U.S. But orchestras inside and outside Rumania have been busy recording much of Enuscu's output. On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will offer a chance to hear some of the less well known works of Enescu. 

 

Footnote: Enescu visited the University of Illinois in 1949, and a recording of his playing of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the UI Symphony Orchestra has been issued on the Biddulph label.
