Turning mixtapes into money
Say the word “mixtape” and for some generations, you instantly think of a musically inclined friend who spent many hours compiling songs from multiple albums or tapes onto one cassette in the 1980s or 1990s.
Mixtapes are a huge part of the digital music era, especially with hip-hop. Recently, University of Illinois College of Music students learned from a top producer about the artistry and equally importantly – the business of making mixtapes from DJ Burn One. During his visit to campus, he talked with Reginald Hardwick.
