The true story of Thanksgiving
The true story of Thanksgiving is the subject of a pair of books by my next guest today: Denise Kiernan is the author of We Gather Together: A Nation Divided, A President in turmoil, and a Historic Campaign to Embrace Gratitude and Grace. That came out in 2020; then this year she adapted that work into a book for children called Giving Thanks: How Thanksgiving Became a National Holiday. She’s got a young adult version of the book slated for next year. The books tell a story of a woman ahead of her time, a president from Illinois, and very little of Pilgrims in New England.
