The challenge of bringing Spanish language news to downstate communities
For Spanish speakers, there are only two Spanish-language television stations in Illinois, both in Chicago, which left an empty void for those living downstate, until a group of students founded the Spanish-language broadcast for Central Illinois. The scope of the broadcast is ambitious and we speak with the founders of U17 En Vivo, a production produced by students in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Media’s Journalism department. We also spoke to a journalist who formerly brought Spanish languge news to people in The Quad Cities.
