Rockford Student in National Poetry Finals

Every year, thousands of high school students across the country take part in a nationwide poetry recital contest called Poetry Out Loud. The program’s aim is to make students better at public speaking while also teaching them literary history. More than 150,000 students took part this year but just 55 of them got the honor of competing in the National Finals next month in Washington DC. Mikiah Gerrity a junior at Jefferson High School in Rockford will represent Illinois.
