Navigating post-graduate plans in the pandemic
College students across the nation left for spring break in March 2020 expecting to return the following week, but with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, many didn’t return to in-person learning for at least six months. Others remained virtual for more than a year. In place of large lecture halls, students finished academic years and began new ones in their childhood bedrooms, logging on to Zoom classes for hours each day while balancing responsibilities at home. Some even finished their college careers without an in-person graduation ceremony or a sense of what might come next.
Navigating graduate school prospects in light of this presents a new wave of challenges to recent grads and those approaching graduation, and to talk about it, we were joined by admissions officials and a graduating senior from the University of Illinois.
