Illinois Storm Chasers
It’s severe weather season in the Midwest and for many of us, that means monitoring the weather and trying to avoid dangers. Some people, however, prefer to head straight into the danger. Storm chasers like from the iconic 90’s film Twister, get in their vehicles, gear in tow and race down country roads all to get an up close view at one of nature’s most violent weather events.
The 21st was joined by two storm chasers to talk about modern-day storm chasing.
Guests:
Andrew Pritchard, meteorologist, storm chaser and photographer.

Supercell and tornado northwest of Sterling, Texas on Monday evening. Curtains of rain and giant hail stones rotated around the tornado while little vortices condensed and danced at the base. What a spectacle. #txwx pic.twitter.com/jBz5sOedEh

A few video captures of the tornado north of Sterling City, Texas today. We later observed the rain wrapped tornado as it approached the power plant on Highway 163. Should have some video highlights up shortly. #txwx pic.twitter.com/1XVQkRgGhg

Yesterday's stunning supercell as the sun hit the horizon and illuminated the entire updraft in a vibrant pink with baby blue dusk behind it.
