Folk school comes to Allerton Park

A folk school teaches a craft, focusing more on the creative and cultural processes at play, while also fostering a community setting. The tradition started in 19th Century Denmark before making its way to the U.S. in the early 1900s. Folk schools quickly began to appear across the country, but none in Illinois. Now, Illinois is set to see classes start at its first folk school this fall. It’s called “The Farms”, and it’s located at Allerton Park & Retreat Center.

We were joined by the center's senior program coordinator to talk about the goals of the school, what programs the school will offer, and more.
