Dulce Quintero makes history as new IL Dept. of Human Service Secretary

Dulce Quintero was appointed as acting Secretary of the Department of Human Services by Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) in September 2023. They were born in Mexico to migrant farm workers and moved to Chicago at the age of nine. Before their current appointment they spent several years as the DHS’s Assistant Secretary of Operations. Before that, they served as Director of Operations for a community health center on the northwest side of Chicago. They’re also a significant voice in Illinois’ LGBTQ community. Quintero is the first non-binary person to lead any Illinois state agency and uses they/them pronouns.
