About 32,000 square miles of Australia have burned since the unprecedented bushfires began in October. If those fires occurred in Illinois, they would cover an area stretching from Rockford, to the Chicago suburbs and down to Springfield. A total area about the size of our neighboring state, Indiana.
It can be difficult to grasp the magnitude of these fires, and what effects they may have on the environment in other parts of the world, including here in Illinois.
Trent Ford serves as Illinois State Climatologist and joined us to talk more about the bushfires.
