What Can Illinois Learn From Michigan About Marijuana?
Recreational marijuana is set to become legal in Illinois on January 1, 2020. That leaves officials in cities and towns across the state with less than a month to figure out how they will be handling sales and tax revenues from the industry.
How is legalization playing out across the Midwest outside of Illinois? We spoke with St. Louis Public Radio reporter Jaclyn Driscoll for more on what’s been happening in Missouri. We also checked in with Michigan, the 10th state in the nation to legalize recreational marijuana, where more than 2,200 people spent about $221,000 on marijuana purchases on the state’s first official day of sales on December 1, 2019.
We learned more from Kathy Gray, who covers the marijuana industry for the Detroit Free Press and Andrew Brisbo, Director of the Marijuana Regulatory Agency in Michigan.
